Ohio Lawn Care Association Elects 2011 Officers and Trustees

The Ohio Lawn Care Association (OLCA) recently announced the election of Officers and Trustees to its 2011 Board of Directors. Officers serve a one-year term and Trustees serve three-year terms that began March 1. OLCA announced the following officers and trustees who will lead the association into the future:

· President – Chris Spellacy, Spellacy’s Turf Lawn, Galena. Spellacy attended The Ohio State University where he studied business management. He founded Spellacy’s Turf Lawn in 1978 and has operated the full service landscape firm ever since. He has served on the board of trustees since 2006.

· Vice-President – Mark Barker, Oasis Lawn Care, Inc., Alliance, OH. Mark attended the University of Akron, majoring in Business. He was employed at Lawnmark from 1985 to 1991 as sales/service representative and branch manager. He has been the owner/operator of Oasis Lawn Care, Inc. since 1991. Mark has been a member of OLCA for several years as well as the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation.

· Secretary/Treasurer – Jeff Benton, St. Clair Lawn Care, St. Clairsville. Benton has served on the Board of Directors since 2004. He graduated from The Ohio State University in Turfgrass Management and is very active in his community.

· Immediate Past President – Mike Sloma, Agrium Advanced Technologies, Columbus. Sloma has served on the board of directors since 2006. He attended the Ohio State University, graduating in 1992 with a degree in Turf Management. He worked as a Golf Course Superintendent at Whetstone Golf Course near Marion for 4 years. He then went into sales selling Hunter Golf Irrigation for 7 years. He joined UAP, now Agrium, in November of 2003 selling chemicals and fertilizer to golf courses, lawn care companies and nurseries.

Two new trustees were elected to serve three-year terms beginning March 1, 2011:

• Rodney Creech, Lawn Plus

• Kevin Flory, Kevin Flory Landscaping and Lawn Care

Also serving on the 2011 Board of Directors are:

· Jeff Bisker, Your Lawn, Inc.

· Matt Ellis, GrassMaster, Inc.

· Dave Hofacre, GrassMaster, Inc.

· Ray Iacobucci, TruGreen

· Andy Kaler, Dow AgroSciences

· Dave Winter, Advanced Turf Solutions

· Gina Zirkle, The Scotts Co.

· Technical Director, Joe Rimelspach, The Ohio State University
