Ohio Lawn Care Outdoor Summer Seminar

COLUMBUS, Ohio

Professional lawn care means more than a nicely trimmed front yard.  Anyone involved in Ohio's lawn care industry will be interested in attending the 15th Annual Ohio Lawn Care Outdoor Summer Seminar on Thursday, Aug. 13, in Columbus.

The event, sponsored by Ohio State University Extension, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, and the Ohio Lawn Care Association, will be held at the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation Research and Education Facility, located off Kenny Road at 2551 Carmack Road.

Registration is limited to the first 200 participants. The day will begin with an hour-long general session on Turf Disease and Problem Solving, led by Joe Rimelspach, OSU Extension plant pathologist. Then participants will break up into small groups for 30-minute sessions on:

  • Improving Poor Soils with Organic and Synthetic Fertilizers, led by Pam Sherratt, sports turf program specialist with OSU Extension.
  • New Herbicide Options for Turfgrass, led by Dave Gardner, associate professor of horticulture and crop science and researcher with the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center.
  • Turfgrass Insect Diagnosis and Management, led by Dave Shetlar, landscape and turf entomology specialist with OSU Extension.
  • Emerald Ash Borer/Tree and Shrub Diagnostics, led by Cindy Burskey, educator with OSU Extension.
  • Postemergence Annual Grassy Weed Control Options and Current Research, led by John Street, turfgrass specialist with OSU Extension.
  • Equipment Showcase, during which participants will have the opportunity to test-drive lawn maintenance equipment from many of the leading industry manufacturers.

Pesticide license re-certification credits are offered with the educational sessions.
Registration for the seminar is $35 for OLCA members by Aug. 7, with a $10 discount offered for additional registrants with the same company. On-site registration (after Aug. 7) is $40 for members. The registration for non-OCLA members is $70 by Aug. 7, or $85 for on-site registration (after Aug. 7). Lunch, refreshments and instructional materials are included.
